During an escalating refugee crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo, televangelist, multi-millionaire and leader of the religious right, Pat Robertson ran a media blitz on his television station, the Christian Broadcasting Network, to raise money for his charity Operation Blessing International. However, Robertson was simultaneously involved with a very different sort of mission in the area: diamond mining. With an extraordinary cast of eye-witnesses "Mission Congo" takes us on a mesmerizing journey, raising larger questions over the billions of dollars raised by American religious institutions that go untaxed and unregulated. Without accountability and oversight, Roberston could exploit not only the refugee crisis but his believers all across America.
"An impressive array of witnesses lend ballast to claims that Robertson’s Operation Blessing — which raised millions in tax-free donations to purportedly help Rwandan genocide refugees — was simply a front for covert diamond mining. Docu is sure to stir controversy as well as tube and possible theatrical sales." VARIETY, 2013
