In 2010, when Spain was crowned the champion at the World Cup in South Africa, the national team of Spain, La Roja, was made up of bitter rival players from the Barcelona and Madrid teams. Year round they compete, yet the patriotism of the national team reflected a new hope for Spain. The 2014 national team is made up not only of players from rival teams, but also mostly from the Basque Country and Catalonia regions. Yet despite this, La Roja is being held as a symbol of a united Spain and of a Utopian national identity. The film uses this complicated new combination of ethnicities and loyalties as a metaphor to explore Spain's hopes for a new future.
